HOUSTON – July 5, 2022 – Earlier this year, KPRC-2 featured our non-profit Atlas Scholars during their Stronger Houston segment. Craig Taylor and Tejpal Singh founded Atlas Scholars in 2013, as a means to bridge the gap between real-world experience and exposure for public high school students, compared to wealthier school districts. Tej Singh shared the way his own lack of experience inspired him, stating, “A lot of our [Tej and Craig’s] adult professional experiences exposed us to how late we were in terms of being exposed to industries, and how late we were in terms of what success is, and how do you achieve that.”

Craig and Tej’s non-linear road to success inspired the two to provide opportunities for students who otherwise might not have them. “There are kids out there that just don’t get the access that could be the difference-maker for their entire life,” added Tej.

Students are selected for a rigorous hands on professional development program that is curated to increase exposure, mentorship and financial support in the form of scholarships. The program lasts three years and is focused in the energy and finance sector.
